Maui County Streamlines Solar Permitting Process

Maui County has launched a new online permitting system that dramatically reduces the time required to obtain residential solar installation permits.

New Online Portal

The ePermit system allows contractors to submit permit applications, plans, and documentation entirely online. For qualifying residential solar projects, approvals can now be issued in as few as 2-3 business days.

Qualifying Projects

Expedited review is available for: - Residential rooftop solar systems under 25 kW - Standard roof-mount installations - Systems meeting prescriptive structural requirements

Impact on Installation Timeline

"Previously, waiting for permits could add 4-6 weeks to a project," said local installer representatives. "This new system means we can often start installation within a week of contract signing."

How It Works

Contractors register with the ePermit portal, upload standardized plan sets, and receive automated preliminary review. Building department staff then perform final review and issue permits electronically.
