Maui Electric Announces New Battery Incentive Program

Maui Electric Company (MECO) has announced an enhanced battery storage incentive program that offers substantial rebates for homeowners who install qualifying battery systems alongside solar.

Program Details

The new program, effective immediately, offers the following rebates: - Standard rebate: $300 per kWh of usable battery capacity - Maximum rebate: $4,000 per residential installation

Qualifying Systems

To qualify, battery systems must: - Be on MECO's Qualified Equipment List - Have a minimum capacity of 5 kWh - Be paired with a solar PV system - Participate in the grid services program

Grid Services Requirement

Participating batteries must be available for grid support during peak demand periods (typically 5-9 PM). During these windows, MECO may discharge a portion of your battery to help stabilize the grid.

"This program helps us manage peak demand while providing real value to our customers," said a MECO spokesperson.

How to Apply

Homeowners should work with their solar installer to apply for the rebate. Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis until program funding is exhausted.
